Garnet Career Center Awarded CARES Act Funding
Garnet Career Center is pleased to announce that we have gained access to the Higher Education Emergency Relief Funds authorized by Congress under the CARES Act.
Garnet Career Center has opted to provide each of our eligible Full-time students with an Emergency Relief check.
Some funding will be made available to our part-time Phlebotomy students; Eligible Phlebotomy students will be notified of the amount of their Emergency Relief check within the next week.
Student eligibility will be verified over the next week.
Eligible students should expect to receive a check from the school by mid-June.
An eligible student is a student who is actively enrolled in a Auto Tech, LPN, or Business program as a full time student, is maintaining Satisfactory Academic Progress according to your program guidelines, has been actively participating in our Emergency Distance Learning activities, is a U.S. Citizen or eligible non-citizen as defined by Federal Title IV regulations, and is NOT in default on a Federal Student Loan.
Guidance from the Federal government indicates that these funds will NOT be considered taxable income and will not impact a student’s eligibility for other Federal or State benefits a student may be entitled to.
Garnet Career Center will follow the COVID-19 Plans put into place by the West Virginia Department of Education and Kanawha County Schools.
The school will remain closed to students through May 31st. Garnet will reopen to CTE programs June 1st on a modified basis. Please call the school for questions about specific Adult Ed. ELA or TASC programs.

Practical Nursing Program Enrollment Deadlines
Due to the closure of KCS schools through the end of May, the May 1st application Deadline for the 2020-21 Garnet Career Center School of Practical Nursing has been extended .
We will continue to accept applications for the 2020-21 school year with no deadline until school resumes or until the end of this school year (June 30, 2020), and we will adjust our TEAS test schedule with the hope of giving all interested students the opportunity to take the TEAS test before then.
When schools are allowed to resume, per Governor decree, WVDE & KCS policy, we will resume TEAS testing and set a new application deadline. We have tentative plans to reopen June 1st. This will be finalized by May 29th.
At this point, the 2020-21 Practical Nursing class is set to start July 15th/16th, but we will keep all applicants and accepted students updated with any new developments.
